A Letter to Our Alumni

Welcome to the webpage of the Gamma-Iota Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha. We have very high expectations for this website and we plan on keeping it updated regularly, so keep coming back for new information. To take a minute to introduce myself, my name is Richard Smillie and I hold the position of High Rho (alumni secretary). It may seem hard to believe, but my Zeta number is 1259. I am a junior biochemistry major from Toledo, OH. Apart from my duties as the High Rho, I am currently a Vice President of the Interfraternity Council and the coach of the Denison University Water Polo Club. My e-mail address is smilli_r@denison.edu and my phone number is 419.297.8201. Feel free to contact me via phone or email if you have any questions, or would like to once again become involved in the great passage that is Lambda Chi Alpha here at Denison University.

One of my goals as High Rho is to compile a complete and accurate mailing list of all Gamma-Iota Alumni. The information that I am looking for, includes e-mail address, phone numbers, mailing addresses, year of graduation, occupation, and zeta number. The reason for this information is to ensure that all alumni are receiving the appropriate chapter mailings and for alumni to be able to contact each other. We have recently been having problems with the GILXA (chapter newsletter), and its delivery, or lack of delivery, to alumni. In order to fix this problem, updated addresses are needed. A quick e-mail from all of you who read this would do a great service in getting that problem rectified. Also, if you stay in contact with any of our brothers would you please forward this information on to them and/or send me as much of their contact information as possible.

Another goal is increased Alumni participation in chapter events, philanthropy, and our recruitment efforts. In recent years, our chapter has been extremely successful in our national philanthropy, The North American Food Drive. Last year also saw the rebirth of Sorority Shanghai, a philanthropy/service week designed for the women. We are also looking to bring Watermelon Bash, another philanthropy/service event, to campus for the spring semester. For more information about these events, contact starr_k@denison.edu. Without countless alumni participation and donations, the success of these events would not be possible. We hold recruitment events both on campus and off-campus that are open to alumni. If you are interested in participating in any of these, please contact myself or murray_m@denison.edu. Remember, Gamma-Iota alumni are always invited to join us for any event the chapter holds.

If time or distance is an issue that is preventing you from becoming active in the fraternity, one of the easiest and most effective ways to help the chapter is by monetary donations. The North American Food Drive is always in need of donations. In fact, $1 is equivalent to 9 lbs. of food that is donated to families in need for the upcoming holidays. In the past few years, our chapter has been at the forefront of all Lambda Chi Alpha chapters in donations to the Food Drive. Checks for the North American Food Drive can be made payable to “Licking County Food Pantry” and sent to the High Theta:
